Obituary For Gary Lee Myers
Dear Family and Friends,
It is with tremendous sadness that I write this to inform all within our extended Fire Department Family that Administrative Support Assistant Gary Myers has passed away due to complications from this cruel global pandemic in which we still find ourselves. Gary began his career with the City of Las Vegas in December 1994. He served us as a valuable asset in the Fire Prevention Division, Fire Logistics Warehouse and Fire Administration. Gary was widely known and exceptionally liked for his infallible computation skills, talent for writing and his compassion for abandoned cats. I have only known Gary for the past six years so these humble words cannot do justice to everything that he meant to so many of us and I apologize for that. But I did get to experience his friendship through our mutual passion for the game of chess and our pursuit of Major League Baseball trivia.
The past four weeks of his illness was very hard on everyone close to Gary including his friends in the feral cat community. For their sacrifice and the comfort, they willingly volunteered throughout this time, and well beyond I imagine, I wish to personally thank Lisa Beisel, Kehrin Thomas, Joe Richard, Kevin Burlington, Eric Moon, Dr. David Slattery and of course Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan. It should not go unmentioned that many others assisted in obtaining updates from UMC on Gary’s condition including all of our fantastic EMS-One Staff. I thank each and every one of you for your efforts.
Gary passed away late on Sunday, July 25, 2021. Gary will be received by Grandview Cemetery in Bremen OH where family will celebrate his return home and interment next to his father. Las Vegas Fire & Rescue is planning to celebrate his life in Las Vegas in the coming weeks. Until then please remember our friend with the warmth of his kindness for others.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother Norma Myers, his father Joseph Lee Myers and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by many cousins, his friends, co-workers and beloved cats.

Gary, it brings tears to my eyes that I will no longer get to celebrate our Christmas meet ups and reading of the Gary Gazette and your love for cats and hearing "I'm sorry" when you there was nothing to be sorry for but that showed your kind heart that book you could of wrote will be missed here in this world. Will miss you buddy. Becky Sakay
